It never hurts to seek a second opinion, but don't discount her advice because of her age or gender. I knew more about house wiring, farm wiring and electric appliance repair when I was 16 than most men learn in a lifetime.

The more helpful it is, the more I'd recommend taking it.

I am a professional photography specializing in rescued cats and dogs. I am putting together a book of photos, but I am also trying to put together some content in it. Advice for when you have to pee on the highway?
I'm going on a long road trip and it seems whenever I drive I have to pee frequently! Yes I try to stop at gas stations or fast food when available but sometimes there just isn't one when I need to go.

I do not know if there is a link between a lack of medical coverage and questions of this nature being asked on Yahoo. Sometimes people just like additional opinions, or to hear from people with the same condition they have.
The US has fantastic medical coverage, and everyone can see a doctor if they choose - many choose not to because %26lt;gasp%26gt; practitioners (like anyone else doing a JOB) expect to be paid for their services. (Damn greedy bastards wanting to get paid for their work in a field that requires years and years of education!)

Medicaid or Medicare will not pay it, however, if you do have an income but prefer to spend your money on vacations or cosmetic surgery, or other non essential expenditures.

I have a very good friend who is pregnant and I've been thinking about something to get her for her baby shower that is personal and unique. I decided that I wanted to make her a little journal filled with advice and suggestions from current mothers. (She has never really been around babies so this is going to be a whole new world to her).

I did not become a mom till i was 30 and I was so greatful to have my family there for me.........nothing can ever prepare u for taking care of a newborn. my son was a good baby(now 2 is not so good.But just offer her advice and a hand when she needs it.................it will come to her.Can you please give me some mommy advice?
My son is now 21. I always told him not to drink or do drugs. WE talked about it all the time. He doesn't drink or do drugs, unlike so many of his freinds and school mates. I am so proud of him.
I also never ever hit him. I put him in time out or grounded him when he got older. THere is never any reason to hit a kid.
I think becuase of these two things my son turned out really well even though I raised him all by myself.
Keep a journal or scrapbook with pictures and write down the cute little things they say and do through out the years. You will love to look back at that when they are older.
Trust your instincts! Follow your own mother's intuition over other's advice, and believe me there will be a TON of unsolicited advice! Know that the first 6 weeks (at least) will be REALLY hard but you CAN and WILL get through it!!!

To be able to be completely smitten with this little piece of you, to become aware that you no longer breathe for yourself but for your children. I didn't know how much I could love until my babies came. Or how much I wanted to be a better person for them and them alone.

Giving birth: Expect the worst, it'll be better than that.
Raising: Don't neglect the little things, first smile, first giggle, spending time nursing/feeding baby. When they are newly upon this earth it goes so quickly, next thing you know they are walking and or running from you. (lol) Enjoy being needed for this little person's survival, don't grudgingly get up in the middle of the night to feed them (though all of us have wished for 15 more minutes sleep). Just remember, it's quality time that you'll never get back.

The most unexpected thing I found about becoming a mother was that even when you buy the most expensive highest quality diapers, you are going to have a ';blow-out'; and baby will be covered in poo up to his/her neck and maybe even in his/her hair. This will happen more than once and probably while your baby has on his/her cutest most expensive outfit from Grandma.
The best advice I received was to have a sense of humor about these things. You're going to be tired. You may not get to shower every day. You may have a sink full of dirty dishes. It's all part of the experience and one day, you'll have stories to tell your kids.

they are a lot of work, but are a wonderful joy. They don't sleep through the night, and you have to go by there schedule. There is know schedule for mommy and daddy. And if you are breastfeeding be prepared, to have to be ready for duty, at all times. That is one thing daddy can't do for you unless you pump.
Just to take each day, as a new day. Enjoy, there little spills, spit up, diapers, feeding and sleeping, they will grow up way to fast. Always show affection towards them. From the first day. They can sense if you are not be caring , and loving.

i have a 20 year old ,a 14 year old and a 2 year old,and the best advise i have ever got-ton is that no matter how stressed you are you need to pretend that you are not so that the baby does not pick up on your stress! it makes a stressful situation so less stressful!
My son is 11 yrs old now. The best advice I got when he was a baby was to sleep when he did. I soon found out that if I didn't I may not get any sleep! lol....Another thing, if baby starts to cry alot I found that holding him close to me %26amp; bouncing with him helped as I sat on the side of the bed. (standing %26amp; bouncing on not much sleep is a little exhausting) lol... My son was a little colicy, hopefully your friends baby won't be. Oh %26amp; I bought lots of sack gowns (thats what we call them around here) instead of sleepers. It's much easier to change babys diaper when they are wearing these, especially if baby is cranky %26amp; or you are going on very little sleep. And if someone offers to help watch the baby....let them help. You don't have to be superwoman. Newborns are alot of work. The important thing is to not get stressed out, the baby can sense what mommy is feeling %26amp; they'll react to that so try to be as relaxed as possible. Subscribe her to a parenting magazine. I had one %26amp; there is alot of good advice in them. And take pictures!!! They grow %26amp; change so very fast in their 1st yr especially. She will be so glad to have those pics to look back on. I have always loved children and wanted several of my own, but what really took me by surprise when I had my son three years ago was the immediate and overpowering sense of love, security and comfort I got the second I laid eyes on him. Nothing in the world compares to the love and comfort I still get every time I look into my now preschool-aged son's eyes, it melts my heart every time.
I would just recommend that a new mom relax and savor every moment. Don't fuss over whether or not you remembered to pack 4 diapers or only 3, or if the baby's pacifier falls on the floor, it will be OK!

The best advice I can give is this: love, trust, patience, and relax. You may not do things the way others want you to do them, and that's OK. You will do things your way and as long as you are doing it out of love and concern for your baby that's what matters.

my child is 7 now . i can give some good advise though. no matter how mad you are when your child gets into trouble just be paiteint and talk to your child . never spank your child. spanking just causes them to rebell more . spanking also teaches them that hitting is ok. also take time to listen to children. dont jump the gun.
1. You never have free time for yourself anymore! While I realized going into my first pregnancy that my baby would (and should!) take up the majority of my time, I didn't realize just exactly how much time that would actually be...about 99% of it!
2. SLEEP WHEN THE BABY SLEEPS!!! (Seriously...unless your house is actually *dirty*, the housework can wait. Scattered toys, unfolded laundry and the like really can wait...)

I have two boys one just turned 6 and the other is 15 months old.

Two things I remember........when you get new baby clothes, wash them all first. All at the same time. This way you know what size they REALLY are after they shrink so you can get the use out of them when they fit. So many times I'd wait til they fit the baby, they'd wear it once, and then I'd wash it and it was no longer wearable cause it shrunk.
Second.....when you have an infant......sleep when the baby sleeps. Take those day time naps, even if the chores are piling up. Say YES to outside help if it's offered. No one will give you a medal for being tired and having a clean house and doing all of it on your own.
And the most unexpected thing I found......how much you can love the stranger they put in your lap for the first time.......suddenly you don't love your dogs and cats as much, you become like a mother wolf protecting her young. A nd you don't have to try.....it just happens overnight.

The best advice I have is a trick for when babies cry and won't stop. Place them face down across your legs. Gently raise your legs up and down and pat their butts at the same time. It put my kids to sleep every time.

Two things I remember........when you get new baby clothes, wash them all first. All at the same time. This way you know what size they REALLY are after they shrink so you can get the use out of them when they fit. So many times I'd wait til they fit the baby, they'd wear it once, and then I'd wash it and it was no longer wearable cause it shrunk.
Second.....when you have an infant......sleep when the baby sleeps. Take those day time naps, even if the chores are piling up. Say YES to outside help if it's offered. No one will give you a medal for being tired and having a clean house and doing all of it on your own.
And the most unexpected thing I found......how much you can love the stranger they put in your lap for the first time.......suddenly you don't love your dogs and cats as much, you become like a mother wolf protecting her young. A nd you don't have to try.....it just happens overnight.
I have two children- 3 and 5 yrs. The most unexpected thing is how you have to plan everything. Even a trip to the store for milk can be hard. But, it is so worth it. My five year old said to me today, ';Mommy guess what.'; I thought she had gotten into trouble, but she said';I love you.'; They just melt your heart.
The best advice I have is a trick for when babies cry and won't stop. Place them face down across your legs. Gently raise your legs up and down and pat their butts at the same time. It put my kids to sleep every time.
Tell your friend good luck and enjoy every minute of it.

I'm going on a long road trip and it seems whenever I drive I have to pee frequently! Yes I try to stop at gas stations or fast food when available but sometimes there just isn't one when I need to go.

I am 45 years old and I'm already having severe hot flashes, I haven't had a period in 6 months (I've had a test by the doctor and I'm not pregnant), and there is emotional anxiety, etc. The doctor said I was in pre menopause, but 6 months with no period sounds like full blown menopause, doesn't it?
Also, what treatments has anyone tried?Can you give me advice about these problems with menopause?

I do know of an extremely fit twenty three year old who died during Seal training. (Marine boot is also very challenging, if somewhat less so than Seal training, but both can be very hazardous and extremely unpleasant.) Injuries are not uncommon, even in training.
Seals, much like Marines and certain Army units, can expect to be deployed at a moment's notice, generally to areas that are hell on earth.
As an enlisted man, you'll be expected to follow orders without question; if you've any psychiatric or medical problems, you might not make it. Any sort of a family life can be very challenging; remember too that military life is very strict and ordered (as it has to be, especially in times of war).
But by all accounts, you'll also receive training that will prepare you for literally anything you encounter, in either military or civillian life. You'll certainly have adventures, and you'll be part of a very small, very valuable community.

As you mentioned needing an OP, I assume you're in Qld. You need an OP1. There's pretty much no other way around it. In senior, you also need to have English, Maths B, as well as chemistry or physics. You are required to sit the Undergraduate Medicine %26amp; Health Sciences Admissions Test (UMAT) and really have to do extraordinarily well on it. The Bachelor of Science/ Medicine Surgery at UQ is 6 years, but I'm assuming thats the minimum you'd have to do.
From my graduating class, only one person is on track for a medical degree. He got an OP3, did all the science subjects, but went in via the Defence Force- they pay all your costs, and you've got a job all the way through your degree and afterwards.

Useful information? Be nice to the nurses. Without the nurses, a doctors job would be extremely difficult.

Don't always insist that your way is the right way.
Be considerate of your partner's feelings.
If you are upset about something, talk about it but don't yell, scream or blame.
Be honest and be fair.
Say ';I Love you'; everyday even if it's not always easy.
Don't feel that you have to always be joined at the hip with your spouse - both of you should have your own interests and friends and be okay to spend time apart without jealousy.
Don't hold grudges.
Talk about all the big steps before they happen - like big purchases (house, car), big moves (changing jobs or homes, retirement) and big changes (having children) - even though you think you both want the same things, you will find that you have differences and if you work them out before a change, things will go much more smoothly.
The main thing is just the old golden rule - treat your spouse the way that you want to be treated.

The fist thing is to choose wisely before you get married. You have to have the same basic value system, and you should have similar interests. With that said, marriage is about caring enough about the other person that you would literally be willing to die for that person. You can never let selfishness rule. If you really evaluate why people don't stay married, whether it's money, infidelity, or a host of other problems, most of them boil down to selfishness. You need to place your spouse's needs ahead of your own. That's not saying to don't do things for yourself, because you do need to take care of yourself and do things for yourself. Just don't do it at the expense of your spouse.
The other bit of advice, never go to sleep until a conflict is resolved. In 25+ years of marriage, my wife and I have never gone 'till the next morning without working things out. There have been some pretty late nights, but in the end we have always come to terms.

You may be all gung ho about not fighting about something, but they may want to fight about something...You may be gung ho about moving and they may not be gung ho about moving. My personal response is through healing yourself, so before even entering a relationship you are as wholly yourself as possible (this also implies maturity in age).

The titles of her books are cheeky, but if you can get beyond them, they contain the jewels for a well-lived marriage.

Be affectionate, considerate, loving, and tender.

Kiss each other several times a day.
Always say I love you.

My living expense is about $1k a month and that includes property tax, insurance, utilities, food, and some traveling. My income from various sources is several times that and I don't have to work. Both my parents and teachers advised me against going into anything BUT Art, since I'd been in art since I was tiny and very virtuous at it. It all happened - this advice given to me, AND STRONGLY - when during the summer between my last High School year and my Freshman year in art-school, I wanted to work eternally for the phone company. Don't ask me why, I don't remember. But working for the phone company became an obsession my parents and teachers broke me out of!
Now that I look back I can understand why they needed to set my head (BACK) on the right track!

As a mother and the head teacher of a toddler class at a large daycare, I'd like to think that I have some experience with this. First of all, never try to force the child to use the ';potty';. As most parents know, trying to make your child do something only makes them NOT want to do it even more. Watch for signs that they are ready....telling you when they need a daiper change, showing interest in a ';potty';, etc. Buy a potty chair so that it's not as difficult, or scary(But Mom, I'll fall in and it will eat me!) for a toddler. Try to let them spend time with other children their age that are already potty trained and make small comments about how they use the ';big boy/girl'; potty. Praise them for trying to use the potty and reward them when they actually do use the potty. You don't have to give them presents or candy. You can give them some extra ';mommy time';, read them their favorite book, or play that game with them that they've been bugging you about. Basically, make a big deal about it when they actually go peepee in the potty. Show them the neat underwear they could wear when they use the potty. (this one really worked on my son when he found that he could wear batman underwear instead ';baby daiper';). Other then that, just be patient. Sometimes it takes awhile for them to be comfortable with it. I have a 4 year old in my daycare class that still is completely content with wearing daipers. I have 2 children. A girl and a boy. My daughter learned #1 first. My son #2 first. Also different ages. I got a potty chair. Put it in the bathroom. Let them pick out big girl-boy underwear. Practiced with a doll first. I get a paper towel and wet it. Put it in my hand. Put it under the doll and sqeeze. Then Yeah look dolly went pee pee in the potty. Give dolly a sticker. The children then wanted thier own stickers. Put your childs name on a piece of paper tape it to the wall and you are in business. Everytime they go they get a sticker and lots of kisses.

Don't try to get your child trained by a certain age. they will do it in their own good time. Introduce your little one to thier little potty and then model the right behavior. Let them see you ';going potty.'; It might seem weird at first, but it's the way they learn.

The first time they go make a HUGE deal about it. Act like a complete idiot....clap and jump up and down....go get daddy and tell him too. Praise your child...then let it all happen. Never punish your child for accidents, just let them know that ';potty (or poo) goes into the toilet.';

My best answer is don't force it. I have 3 girls and they all trainned at different ages. When they start staying dry all night that would be a good time to buy a training potty. There are also some great books and videos now too.

What worked for me may not work for you and what may work for you may not work for someone else. I had three boys. I trained them all the same way but they was trained according to their development stages. I would just do like it has been done for decades, sit those toddlers on the pot for about an hour and talk them through it as though they could comprehend. But I would sit them on the pot several times a day. All three stopped wetting and pooping on themselves at different levels. Don't worry, he/she will get tired of mommy nagging them sooner or later. Some mature faster then others. As you and your child adventure into this training for a good period of time, try switch ing up and take him/her to a bigger pot, like the commode for instance, but be there to assist him/her. They will then feel like they are maturing and is showing improvement. Reward them when they do good. I'm not comparing children to animals but look how animals learn to be obedient so quickly and notice how fast they learn when their trainer rewards them!
Let them choose the potty,big boy theme/girl panties.
Place potty in family area %26amp; casually place child on for
however long he wants to sit. It's all about fun %26amp; games
Child may reject chair for awhile, that's ok...Put favorite
dolly or plush animal toy on potty. Wheeee, what a big
thrill... partytime...
But no scolding when child has accidents.
A hug/kiss/star/sticker works well for any effort...

Make it a party!!! If they go have a potty dance that you do after make it a big deal they need a fun reason to do it another way,,have those little noise maker things and have a little parade from the bathroom to a fun treat.
First of all I hope you are a very patient person because you will need all that you have. I have tried many different methods I will list them below and let you know my results.

I reccomend getting a potty chair, at first my son hated it so I put it in our family room where all his toys and the tv is he was more willing to use it. every 15 min or so I would make him sit on the potty seat eventualy he went (don't forget to praise your child) also when they go poppy for the first time they may freek out just reasure them that it is ok and that they did a great job.
2. I did try pull ups unfortunately my son would go to the bathroom in them anyways and he really didn't care that he could feel it on his skin he got a rash, so what I did was buy him underware and also the gerber training paints that have the vinyl on the outside that way when he did wet his pants he felt it didn't like it and didn't ruine my furniture. (don't forget keep making your child go every 15 min or so) Honestly perservierience will help train them faster. If you slack off you will loose everything you have worked so hard for.
3. When it comes to using the big potty I waited until he asked to use it then I bought a potty seat, and a stool. by that time he was telling me when he had to go and had few accidents.
4. If you have a boy he will learn to stand up and pee by watching your husband it was so weird one day my son just went in the bathroom and started peeing with daddy and the rest is history (thank God)
I also found the DVD Poty Training With Bear (bear in the big blue house) helpful. And your library may have resorces you can use.
I'm sure you will do great, (and don't forget that you don't see adults walking in diapers so your child will learn to use the potty eventually)

PATIENCE
Be patient. I win first, second or third in one-third of all on-line tournies I play in. Be patient. With 10 players, for example, you often have to have great cards to win a hand. It is more unpredictable. Let the poorer players make their mistakes and chase cards. When it gets down to 5 or 6 players it gets easier to win.
If it is just a regular game, not a tournament, you still need to have patience and study the other people. They have trends. If you get more experience, you will know how to appear to have a trend...then break it to throw people off.
By the way, reading books is good as suggested. Do not follow the advice to ';follow your gut.'; Play smart, not with emotion.
-Always play your best
-dont play online, unless its for real money.
-forget books, experince is a better teacher
-dont play by the ';books'; or ';what you should do'; (all the time).
sometimes play what your gut says.
-you dont need a poker face unless your a professional (even then you really don't need it)
-The only good wired pair is a queen or higher

-Learn to play both POSITIONS and the PLAYERS. If you play like you have rockets every hand then you will be a force to be reconded with. Your cards have little to do with your game play.

-Learn to be a good winner as well as a good loser

The best advice I would give you is to learn hand selection. What I mean is that you have to know which hands to play in what situations. Phil Helmuth says that you should only play the top ten hands. AA,kk,qq, ak,aq,jj,1010,kq. Hands like these. Also, if you are in a very early position you want very strong hands, when in a late position you can loosen you standards slightly. If you can master this this will immediatley make you a better player. I see way to many times players that will play just about any hand just because they love the action. There is a nmae for those types of players. ATM, they spit out money regulary. I think the best way to play is to play very tight, only play good hands, but when you do play, play aggressively, get the most money in the pot, especially when you are pretty sure that you have the best hand. IF you think you are beat, you probably are, do not put money in a pot when you are pretty sure you are beat, unless you think you can win by bluffing. Checking is a weak play, unless you check raise. Raising is usually your best play. Vary your raises, don't let someone know that you raise a lot with premium hands, you will not make as much money as possible. Folding is often you best play. You should play about 1 out of how many ever players are at the table. 10 Players at the table, you should play about 1 out of every 10 hands, on average. PATIENCE
Be patient. I win first, second or third in one-third of all on-line tournies I play in. Be patient. With 10 players, for example, you often have to have great cards to win a hand. It is more unpredictable. Let the poorer players make their mistakes and chase cards. When it gets down to 5 or 6 players it gets easier to win.
If it is just a regular game, not a tournament, you still need to have patience and study the other people. They have trends. If you get more experience, you will know how to appear to have a trend...then break it to throw people off.
By the way, reading books is good as suggested. Do not follow the advice to ';follow your gut.'; Play smart, not with emotion.

The best advice I would give you is to learn hand selection. What I mean is that you have to know which hands to play in what situations. Phil Helmuth says that you should only play the top ten hands. AA,kk,qq, ak,aq,jj,1010,kq. Hands like these. Also, if you are in a very early position you want very strong hands, when in a late position you can loosen you standards slightly. If you can master this this will immediatley make you a better player. I see way to many times players that will play just about any hand just because they love the action. There is a nmae for those types of players. ATM, they spit out money regulary. I think the best way to play is to play very tight, only play good hands, but when you do play, play aggressively, get the most money in the pot, especially when you are pretty sure that you have the best hand. IF you think you are beat, you probably are, do not put money in a pot when you are pretty sure you are beat, unless you think you can win by bluffing. Checking is a weak play, unless you check raise. Raising is usually your best play. Vary your raises, don't let someone know that you raise a lot with premium hands, you will not make as much money as possible. Folding is often you best play. You should play about 1 out of how many ever players are at the table. 10 Players at the table, you should play about 1 out of every 10 hands, on average. Laws are different in the united states so your education is not really any use here. What you can do is what my mom did, since she was a lawyer in sweden, she now works at a swedish consulate. If you have a degree from a school that is not accredited by the American Bar Association you can't sit for most state bars (I actually don't think you can sit for any) BUT the easy solution to it is this: go back to an Amercian ABA accredited law school for a ONE YEAR LLM degree in anything - trust me, anything - and then when you graduate from that one year program, you now have a degree from an American ABA school and can sit for the bar exam and practice law in the state where you pass the bar. I am a lawyer and also teach college paralegal classes. I had some awesome students over the years who were lawyers from abroad who I was mortified to learn were delivering pizzas, etc. b/c they could not get jobs here. Most have gone and gotten the 1 yr LLM degree and are now earning more than I am in specialized fields. Good luck.
