I'd like to breed mini dwarf lops as a hobby where should I start and is there any advice you could give me???

My advice pretty much parallels that of the people above: Don't do it.

There is already a gross over population of rabbits. In pet stores, in shelters. Don't make more rabbits that, in the long run, won't have homes.I'd like to breed mini dwarf lops as a hobby where should I start and is there any advice you could give me???
Yes, how about: dont do it.

ANIMALS ARE NOT HOBBIES!!!!!

Why do you want to breed when there are so many animals in shelters, getting dumped in fields, getting pts all over the place. What sort of hobby makes other things miserable? How about a hobby that helps the world instead? you could rescue rabbits instead of selfishly adding to their problems. Do you have any idea of how many mini lops are out there? There are over 200 at the rescue I volunteer at, and they have to turn away that many in a few months. Many people will want your cute baby rabbits, until they are about 3-6 months old, and start becoming adults, and have nasty behavior of un-altered animals such as spraying urine, growling, lunging, biting, and such, they then dump them into a park to be eaten, or get run over, or killed by dogs...and we end up cleaning up the leftovers. Thanks a lot. Your hobby is also my burden.

Get with modern times....dare you to read ';why not to breed'; in this reference:

I dont know if you have noticed, but celebrities-Ellen, Oprah, PM of Canada - to name a few...are starting to get rescued animals right and left.I'd like to breed mini dwarf lops as a hobby where should I start and is there any advice you could give me???
dont listen to most of that guys nonsence!!!

i do agree that breeding is not a hobby and shouldnt be done because you are bored, but because you have a love for the animal and if you are doing it for money dont bother it cost so much to maintain them and you get hardly any back so thats why you do it for the love of the animal because thats all you really get from it. now the negatives are gone if you still want to start here

a male and a female, purebreds best to go private breeder because all the ones in pet shops are if you ask them 'pure bred dwarfs' lol thats what my babies were sold as but they were in dog world 'mutts' lol

put them in a cage together they keep each other company, they will do their loving business at the right age, youngest 3 months but higher chance of still birth or death of mother. optimal age is 6 months when they are almoast fully developed.

about 4 weeks later she will start pulling out bits of fur and her teets will drop down about a week prior.

on the day of or day before she gives birth she will be running around like a mad hatter collecting grass and fluffy things to put in her nest. make sure the male is removed from the cage at this time or she will become preganant immediately after giving birth. don't let them mate till her babies are older than 2 weeks or she will stop feeding them too early

a note to help you, unless you have a really close close relationship with the female don NOT touch the babies as she may abandon them, the only time you should handle them is if their environment is unsafe as it is or if one is sick try attaching it manually to the mothers milk as its probably a runt.

after 2 weeks the babies will start opening their eyes and its sooo cute!

they will start nibbling on grass at about 2 1/2 weeks and start eating grass at 4-5 weeks till this time their nibbling is just that. they derive no nutrient form the grass they just chew it not swallow. after 4 weeks they can be removed however it is not recomended that they are weened till 6 weeks where they can be shipped off to the pet store.

they eat alot of food between the parents and up to 12 babies first littter around 2 or 3 if they live after that around 6-8 with a few dying through natural causes
i would just like to say there is no such thing as a mini dwarf lop....... anyways...... i agree with the girl above me....
