My relative is moving from a 2500 square foot home to a condo or a nice apartment she has some kids. My question is since I will be helping her move everything what is the best way to help her move? This is an undaunting task as she has a lot of things and her ex will be picking up his belongings as well. How can she do this move within 2 months and get everything she needs done,Any pratical prudent advice would be helpful and thank youFor those of you that have moved do you have any advice?
The other answers are great - but here's a crucial extra. Make sure that you have everything you need to get ready for bed - especially for the kids - in a separate box in the car.
Have a shower curtain, shampoo/soap, sets of clean sheets, toothbrushes and pajamas someplace easy to find. Also make up the beds and have the bathroom ready first thing; that way when she is ready to collapse, she can grab a shower and crash.
My mom taught me this one (a veteran of over 15 moves!) I'd never have survived w/o it!For those of you that have moved do you have any advice?
I am moving across the country next week. My advice is to first sort through everything, and make 3 piles; one to keep, one to donate, and one for trash. Pack what is least used first (Christmas decor, for instance). Label each box with a general description of contents and what room it belongs in. Use extra towels and sheets for padding. Pack what will be used first last (bathroom items, clean sheets, 2-3 days of clean clothes, a couple of pots %26amp; pans, enough dishes and silverware, or disposables). When the day of the move comes, unload the truck and put each box in the room it belongs. This will keep things sorted properly, and you'll avoid moving boxes more than once.
Aloha!
Jes sell everything %26amp; move! Take as little as possible!
~Don't keep keyrap!
~Everything is replacable {except personal pictures %26amp; perhaps some art.}
~Get rid of clothes that are worn, or torn or Goodwillage...
Make the move in two days, NOT two months! Those extra weeks can be devoted to something important!
If ya really wanna help, call the Salvation Army Truck %26amp; bring matches for the rest!
Best wishes, K-den, M1
Ok, so Fisrt, if there is anything breakable, you HAVE to wrap it in bubble wrap or a towel or blanket. If you dont, it will break. Also, to save room, take small items like say some nicknacks, wraped of corse, and put them like in a pot with a lid. They might not go in the smae place, but you at least saved some room so that you dont have to go back and forth five times! =D
Box up everything she can in advance, mark on the box what's in it, and what room it's going into. Have a bunch of friends help with loading and unloading and pay them in beer and pizza and a promise to help them move/babysit, etc.
make sure boxes are properly labeled. bathroom living room and so on. or it will take months before she finds everything.
