Do you have any advice for a new volunteer at the SPCA?

After a training session next week, I will be off to volunteer at the Houston SPCA. I will be working with the large dogs.

you will love it. you just have to love every dog, and know that they will find a new home and have a wonderful lifestyle. i volunteer at a shelter and its one of the best decisions ive made!! very rewarding and a great experience!!Do you have any advice for a new volunteer at the SPCA?
You'll need to work there for a while to find out your niche....i.e. dog walking, training, grooming, adoptions, animal care. It's an extremely fun and rewarding thing to do....but be careful...you will get attached to certain animals!!! I have 1 cat and 1 dog now....didn't have any when I started volunteering :)
don't get attached to the dogs and ask questions... ask anything that comes to mind.

learn a lot and have fun.
Love, patience, and understanding. Some of the stories will break your heart but you can't adopt them all. Move slow and earn the trust of the animal. And allways carry treats in your pocket. Good luck and thank you for loving animals enough to want to help.
